Mr. M did it again! He’s a great muse!
When I write, many times I listen to an Easy Listening station on cable. I can’t listen to songs with lyrics…I start singing along and my train of thought gets derailed!
A song came on, “How Great Thou Art” by Vince Gill (instrumental/guitar). I called to hubs, who was in the kitchen, to ask him if he’d heard the song, since he likes Vince Gill. (Hubs plays the guitar also. That’s how we met. But that’s another story.)
He walked into the family room to listen for a bit. We talked. He went back into the kitchen (he was fixing some tea). The next song came on. “Laura,” from the movie of the same name. I thought he’d like to hear it since he likes the old movie and especially the song. So do I.
So, I called him again. “Here’s another one.”
He came back in the family room, listened a bit, and, as he walked back to the kitchen, he said something that stuck with me, rattling around in my ol’ noggin.
He said, “The movie wouldn’t have been the same without the music.” Which made me think: I wonder how many other movies wouldn’t have been the same without the music.
So, I looked up a few movies…
*You’ve Got Mail: just wouldn’t be the same without all those great songs
*Saturday Night Fever: “Stayin’ Alive”/”How Deep is Your Love”/and others
*The Wizard of Oz: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and the others
*White Christmas:”White Christmas”/”Count Your Blessings”/and others
*Singing in the Rain: “Singing in the Rain”/”Good Morning”/and others
*Casablanca: “As Time Goes By”/”It Has to Be You”/and others
*The Sound of Music: “My Favorite Things”/”Climb Every Mountain”/and others
*theme songs from the James Bond movies
I cannot imagine these movies, or others, without the music.
Then, my thoughts trailed off to: What would life be like without the music?
Life with no music? No whistling fathers, hard at work? No mothers singing lullabies to their babies? No one singing in the shower or to the radio in the car? No singing Happy Birthday? No church choirs and no pews filled with praisers? What is life without the music?
However, the music of life, of creation, is more than that. It surrounds us everywhere. David sang, “Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them.” (Ps. 69:34 NKJV)
At one with God…the whole universe sings! The birds tweet their melodies. The waves crash their rhythms against the shore. The leaves in the trees respond to the wind as if they were an Aeolian harp.
Did you know the whales and the stars sing (Job 38:7 NKJV)? Have you ever listened to Louie Giglio’s videos, Stars and Whales Singing How Great is Our God? Oh, don’t miss this!
The music is not only around you, but it’s in you as well. The music of heaven! The sweet sounds of harmony reside in a heart fine-tuned to the vibrations of heaven. Unleashed in the songs of triumph sung out of tribulation. In the praises of thanksgiving sung out of rescue and deliverance. In the sounds of rejoicing out of answers to prayer.
I’d love to post the words to a song here, but that’s a no-no. So, this is better. Wanna smile? This will make your day, and the song will be stuck in your head…but you’ll thank me!
Don’t let your life be without music, without the songs of praise to the One you love the most. Sing, even if you just make a joyful noise inside your head!
“Oh, that we might sing morning and evening, and let song touch song all the way through.” ~unknown
What is life…without the music?

I love to sing. I don’t have a great voice, but I love to sing. In the shower, while washing dishes, while walking outside… I just love to sing praise and worship songs. 🙂
Awesome! Good for you. Did you know the enemy hates it? It’s a death-knell to him. Oh, that reminds me. I’ll have to run a post I wrote eons ago on that. Something the Lord said to me. Thanks so much for stopping by. On my way to your house! Blessings to you! 😀 ❤
