Those plain ol’ days. Those lingering days of gray.
Do you ever have them?
Those sunless days? Days of gray-soup clouds hovering over, cloaking the hours as with an ashen scarf?
Or how about a day when nothing happens, either good or bad.
The day is just there. A spot on the calendar. The dullness of life’s routine.
Or what about when your soul is just plain tuckered out from too many problems. When the world’s issues encroach on your peace. And your own issues make you bald.
The arrows of the day poke holes in your confidence, strength, and hope. And you just want to hide out in the backyard shed.
You long for the Lord to once again breathe His precious whispers of comfort to soothe and encourage the very depths of your soul.
You ache for that tender touch of the Father’s hand to gently wipe away the rivulets of tears, to ease the dull ache in your heart, to smooth away your fretted brow.
You forget that the gift of emptiness means being filled with the gift of His presence.
Then, the Lord says…”Come sit with Me.”
“When you come into My Presence, does My nearness suffice? When you come with your many prayers, does My nearness suffice? When you come with a frantic request, does My nearness suffice? When you come with your praises and thanksgiving, does My nearness suffice?
“Can you come into My Presence, silently, wanting nothing, saying nothing, but just to be near Me, the One you say you love?
“When a loving child snuggles up next to you, just to be near you, does your heart not respond with deep appreciation and enduring love so as to bring tears of pure pleasure and great joy? Do you not long for that moment to last forever?
“And so this is what I desire from all My children, a heart of deep devotion, of tender love, and unending joy.
“Come. Sit in My Presence. Bask with Me in the light you bring to My eyes. Come. Delight My heart with the joy of your tender love of Me. Come, for My heart aches for all who do not know Me. Come, and you shall know the pure joy of the Heartbeat of the world.” *
The next time your day is clouded over, just remember: those lingering gray days don’t cloak the sun forever. The sun is still there. Waiting.
And the Son is still there. Waiting…in the hushed silence to be with you.
Do not miss the footfall of His presence on those gray days. Don’t let it go unnoticed.
In all the heart-wrenching blows of life and the adverse conditions of the world, be ever sensitive to His presence. Sit and rest with Him on the couch of fellowship.
Words aren’t always necessary. His presence and intimacy are.
You won’t need to forage in back alleys for scant, leftover crumbs of confidence, strength, and hope. You’ll find them all in abundance in His presence.
“One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that I will seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
[in His presence] all the days of my life.”
