Waiting for God

Waiting for God.

Do you ever wait for God? Wait for Him to answer a prayer that has a chokehold on your heart? One that needs a special answer or an immediate one?

And you wait and you wait and you wait.

It’s like being in a doctor’s office. You sit in the waiting room sometimes for hours. Then, you get moved into the inner sanctum, an examining room, where you think you’ll see the doctor in just a few moments. But you wait once again.

And just like that, there we are: stuck in God’s waiting room.

It feels dark and empty in there. It feels as though our prayers go nowhere.

The problem is within ourselves, but we usually don’t recognize it. We allow so much of the world to crowd in on us, causing shadows to hover over our heart and soul and spirit, we no longer hear from the Lord. And we wonder why. The why is we don’t sit still long enough or quiet enough in His presence to receive an answer.

While in this waiting-room condition, all our prayers seem to pile up. But in order for God to answer them, He must take them in order of priority. Sometimes, He has to rescue us first from whatever condition we’ve gotten ourselves into and then work out the answers.

Our first task is to ask for God’s forgiveness for paying more attention to our worries and fears and to the world than to what His Word says. And His Word tells us not to worry. Fear and worry cannot co-exist in the heart giving its allegiance to the One and Only true God.

Waiting for God is so hard, isn’t it?

“He will wait till you return to him and seek his face, and then he will be ready to meet you with mercy. He will wait, that he may do it in the best and fittest time, when it will be most for his glory, when it will come to you with the most pleasing surprise. He will continually follow you with his favours, and not let slip any opportunity of being gracious to you.” (Matthew Henry’s Commentary)

Matthew Henry said that of this verse, “Therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted to have mercy on you. For Jehovah is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him.” (Is. 30:18 NKJV)

Sounds like a vicious waiting circle: the Lord waits to be gracious and bless those who wait for Him.

He shows that He is the exalted God by His mercy shown to us.

All may be falling apart, but if we sit patiently waiting for God to act, knowing He will come through, we will know His mercy and compassion.

Therefore, all things are possible. Jesus said, “With God all things are possible.” (Matt. 19:26b NKJV) And “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23 NKJV)

If you’ve been a reader for a while, you know one of my favorite old television series is M*A*S*H. Almost in every episode, the character Radar, with his sixth sense, would stop in the middle of doing something, look up, and yell, “Choppers!”

“I don’t hear anything,” someone would respond.

Radar would answer, “Wait for it!”

Wait for it; something is coming.*

Are you waiting for God to answer your prayer? Wait for it! Believe something is coming!

Blessings of waiting to you…Lynn

*Wait for It!
