Taken Aside by Jesus

October 28, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Taken Aside by Jesus

“And taking him aside from the crowd [privately]…”
(Mark 7:33a Amp)

Have you ever had a deep, dark struggle in your life? Most of us have. I have. And it sent me to my knees to seek the Lord. During that time of struggle, I wrote this…

Oh, from these bars of confinement shutting me in, I cry out to God. From this darkness surrounding me, all seems lost. Yet, I know all things are sifted through the loving fingers of my precious Lord. Wishing to commune with me, He allows this thing to touch my life.

Though others see not my streaming tears, the Lord sees my aching heart and gently wipes away those tears. “Nearly all God’s jewels are crystallized tears,” someone once said.

Too many voices clamor for my attention. Wearied from the noise of the world, my ears impatiently wait for the comforting sound of His voice. The Lord “takes me aside from the crowd privately” into absolute aloneness with Him, that I may listen only to Him. His words of love and comfort speak thunderously in this solitude.

When darkness and loneliness loom endlessly, they yet result in the richest and most rewarding of all spiritual experiences, for it is then that I see my darkness is but the overshadowing of the wings of the Lord, and I await the radiance of His glorious light to fall from heaven that I might behold my precious Savior.

The Lord’s purpose in taking me aside is never immediately discerned. However, getting my attention and bringing me into a deeper relationship with Him is always His will in my blackest hours.

The Holy Spirit comes as the dew of dawn to silently dispense His peace and comfort. In waves of coolness, He breathes upon me like a refreshing wind.

This parched mortal vessel yearns to be filled with those Living Waters provided only by the Lord. His peace pours forth as an endless river, rushing over me to cleanse all that would obstruct my view of Him. As I go to the Well, I drink in His Life and I am revitalized.

Then, I sing of His wonders and tell of His glories, and my walls of confinement fade into nothingness. The way opens before me. I see His brilliant, glistening footsteps on the path before me as if sprinkled with the glitter of heavenly dust, and only the light of praise brings them into focus.

Not all my questions are answered nor all my longings appeased, but His gracious mercy provides the path of recovery to soundness, to wholeness, to a larger place, to Himself.

It is for this that I praise Him for “taking me aside.”

~~Lord, may rivers of blessings be poured out to other parched souls because of my desert. I pray that freedom may come to them out of my confinement, that light for blind eyes may come out of my darkness, and that comfort for the hurting may come out of my loneliness. Amen.~~

***Hope it’s okay that I grabbed another oldie from the recycle bin!

Snuggling in Pop’s Lap

March 21, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Norman and Reece snuggling 4

She sits in her Pop’s lap, cuddled close to him (who loves her intensely). Her head rests on his chest, her thumb rests in her mouth. His head rests on hers. Both of them wrapped up in a fuzzy blue blankey.

She loves her Pop and her favorite thing is to cuddle with him. And her Pop? Oh, my, how he loves it! Probably more than she does. Sometimes, I think his heart will explode with love.

When she sits in his lap, she never struggles, because she loves to be with him. She’s the picture of trust: rest, comfort, and peace.

After I posted The Secret Hiding Place a couple of weeks ago, a friend commented on Facebook on my post and left this phrase (that she heard somewhere):

Snuggle, don’t struggle.

So, do we struggle against the Father, our heavenly Pop, while He is trying to hold onto us?

Or do we love and trust Him, grabbing our spiritual blankey and crawling up in His lap, just to snuggle with Him, to feel that sense of rest, comfort, and peace? Don’t you know He loves it more than you do, and His heart explodes with love for you?

‟…rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength…”
(Is. 30:15 NIV)

‟I am quiet now before the Lord, just as a child…”
(Ps. 131:2 TLB)

Where is Your Heart?

January 24, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Where is your heart

Listening to Pandora the other morning, I recognized an old familiar song and, as I hummed along to the instrumental, the words to the title kept swirling around my mind…

Where is your heart? Where is your heart?

(The song, entitled Where is Your Heart, was originally recorded by Percy Faith’s orchestra, words by William Engvick and music by Georges Aurie, for the movie Moulin Rouge.)

As I listened, I heard God whisper to my heart, “Where is your heart?” Then, these words of the song shot their arrows into my heart…

It’s always like this
I worry and wonder
You’re close to me here
But where is your heart?

Of course, He doesn’t worry or wonder; He knows exactly where my heart is. But, as the Bridegroom to His Bride, He seeks, in tender and intimate appeal, for an answer from me, “Where is your heart? Does it belong to Me alone?”

So, I search for the answer…

* Where is my heart?
* Is it seeking my beloved Lord above all else?
* Am I having love affairs with other things?

The disciple John cautions, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him…For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father.” (1 John 2:15 NIV, 1 John 2:16 NLT)

Oh, my! Longing for and loving things of the world displaces my love for the Father. Allowing duplicity to move into my heart, I will have an inward turmoil of two masters, and I will then experience what I call the Rebekah Syndrome.

When Rebekah, Isaac’s wife, found out “two children struggled with each other in her womb,” (Gen. 25:22 NLT), she asked God, “If this is right why am I this way?” (Gen. 25:22 Masoretic Text) The Lord answered her, “Two nations are in your womb.” (Gen. 25:23 NKJV)

Two different fellowships desiring my full attention.

Is my attention diverted by too many things, leaving me no time for my Lord? Is my heart out wandering the streets of the world, searching for its pleasures? Or do I spend precious time leaning upon my Beloved’s breast as the disciple John did, just to be near Him, or sitting at His feet as Mary did, just to serve Him in worship by pouring out my thanks and my tears as fragrant oil upon His body?

~~Lord, where is my heart? Am I truly seeking You? What have I allowed to move into your Living Room, making itself comfy on the throne that belongs to you? Oh, Lord, search my heart, show me what I worship and desire more than You and dispose of them so that I may love, worship, and serve You with all my heart, all my soul, and all my mind. Amen~~

Questions: Where is your heart? What causes a Rebekah syndrome in you? Ask the Lord what is in your life, whether harmful or seemingly good, that separates you from a holy relationship and deep, intimate fellowship with your Beloved.

Is there anything you love more than the Lord? Jesus asks you…

“Do you love Me more than these?”
(John 21:15b NKJV)
