But Waiting is So Hard!

November 21, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Waiting

Do little snippets, little phrases, of scripture stand out to you? Sometimes, they fling themselves off the pages of my Bible and sock me right between the eyes!

Though scripture must be taken in context and not misused, sometimes, there is more than one application to a portion of a verse. Especially when the Holy Spirit quickens it to our spirit.

I have a bazillion of these underlined and highlighted in my Bible. Though the Lord uses scripture for our discipline, comfort, exhortation, teaching, and guidance, among other things, He also uses portions of His Living Word to speak to us. To bring life, His Life, into our soul and spirit.

And this one has been speaking – loudly – to me…“Blessed is he who waits.” (Dan. 12:12a NJKV)

Wow! Blessed is the one who waits!

But waiting…waiting…waiting…is hard, isn’t it?

Sometimes, we wait years for the expression of an answer to prayer.

Over time, I’ve learned to rest and wait, but, sometimes, I don’t do it very well.

I’m impatient…years pass and no resolution comes.

I’m perplexed…seeds have been sown but no harvest is produced.

I’m disappointed…the Lord has promised and no result has made its appearance yet.

I’m frustrated…my heart is anxious to serve the Lord, longing to help another, to bring aid and comfort to those who are hurting, but a way is not provided.

It’s difficult to be a spirit-being housed in a human vessel, limited to physical outcomes.

My heart aches and words spill out…

I know the battle is not mine; it is Yours, Lord. Not my will but Yours be done. I will wait until You, Lord, roll back the crushing tide of circumstance and illness. I will wait, Lord, until You open heaven’s sluice gate of provision. I will wait, Lord, until Your hand brings the needed resolution.

I will wait…in silent anticipation, in childlike obedience. Waiting for Your commands, Your guidance, Your supply. Oh, Lord, I need to practice anticipating Your working and fulfillment and waiting in watchful expectancy of Your supply of all that is needed.

When the earth shakes with heartaches and trials, Your joy, Lord, will be my strength. You will be my fortified place of safety and protection, my anchor in the harbor.

Wait patiently, my soul…for God is never late. His truths cannot fail. His promises shall be accomplished in due time.

Lord, make me like Abraham, “After he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” (Heb. 6:15 NKJV)

May I be long-spirited, to persevere patiently and bravely, to obtain Your promises.

“But if we hope for what is still unseen by us,
we wait for it with patience and composure.”
(Rom. 8:25 Amp)

The Chief Supply Officer

February 28, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Chief Supply Officer

Source

A man worked for a large supply company that had a multitude of divisions. As the Chief Supply Officer, he managed supplies for all employees of local and national districts.

Every workday, employees of the company, divisional managers, and corporate officers came to him for all they needed from inventory to run their territory.

All day long, he fulfilled requests and made promises for future fulfillment of those things not yet available: Yes, go down to supply and have your request filled immediately; yes, I’ll have it for you by noon; yes, that will be ready for you next month.

Everyone trusted him more than any other department head. They presented him with their requests by leaving them on his desk, having faith in his word they would be fulfilled.

This man loved his job and all those he worked with. He hated to disappoint them, but once in a while, he had to tell a petitioner what s/he requested was impossible to supply, either because it was discontinued, did not exist, was on back order, was not available due to certain circumstances, or was the wrong solution for their needs.

So, though there was an occasional disappointment, the employees trusted the manager’s wisdom. They never needed to beg him or needle him asking when or where some item would arrive. Whatever they needed came just at the right time.

Did the employees act on their faith in the manager and his promises, or did they doubt his word that their needs would be fulfilled and grumble incessantly? Did they understand when they received a non-fulfilled request or when told a replacement would have to do?

What does the Bible tell us about God’s Word and His promises?

* ‟Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” (Num. 23:19b NIV)
* ‟Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
(Josh. 21:45 NIV)
* ‟…not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” (Josh 23:14 NIV)

After Solomon’s dedicatory prayer of the temple, he turned to the people and said of God, “There has not failed one word of all His good promise.” (1 Kings 8:56b NKJV) The original Hebrew text says, “Not one word of all His good word has fallen.” (1 Kings 8:56b Masoretic Text) Or defined, it means not one word has been cast down, failed, or fallen short.

When old Mrs. Abraham laughed at overhearing the Lord tell Mr. Abraham that she would have a baby in her old age, the Lord asked Mr. A why Sarah had laughed, and then asked, “Is anything too difficult for Jehovah?” (Gen. 18:14 Mas)

If we look at the definitions in this verse, we might reword it this way, “Is the word or the promise of the Lord too marvelous or extraordinary as being beyond His power to perform it?”

When the angel Gabriel visited Mary, he used the same words only in the form of a statement. He said to her, “With God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37 NKJV) I love this. The literal Greek says, “Because not will be impossible with God every word.” (Luke 1:37 Received Greek Text)

I love the way the Amplified states it. According to the definitions, it says, “For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.” Isn’t that awesome?

Paul told the Romans that to receive a promise of God “is the outcome of faith and depends [entirely] on faith, in order that it might be given as an act of grace.” (Rom 4:16a Amp)

So, when we bring our petitions before the Chief Supply Officer of heaven’s inventory and present Him our list of needs, do we leave them on His desk, knowing full well He will supply them, according to His promises, His will, and in His time? Or do we beg Him for an answer or doubt His Word and grumble incessantly?

What is the outcome of your faith?
Is God’s Word beyond His power to perform it?
Do you trust the promises of your Chief Supply Officer?

A New Year’s Letter to a Friend

January 4, 2013 By Lynn H Mosher

Vista
My dearest friend,

The Lord has placed it on my heart to write to you, to encourage and uplift you, and maybe even to inspire you to live your life a little closer to Him throughout the New Year.

Though you stand on the verge of this land of the unknown, you will find this year to be no different from the last, in the sense that life offers no smooth rides. Deuteronomy 11:11a says, “But the land you are about to go into and take for your own is a land of hills and valleys.” (NLV)

Hills and valleys will be present just as they were last year. They will supply an abundance of opportunities, interests, learning, joys, sorrows, and, yes, even testing and discipline.

However, dear one, take courage from God’s Word. Deuteronomy 11:12 says, “The Lord your God cares for this land. His eyes watch over it from the beginning to the end of the year.” (NLV) And so His eyes are upon the land of your journey, for He cares for it from the beginning to the end.

In your journey, you will encounter lush, green hills of the Lord; stand upon their summits and take in those sweeping vistas, not necessarily as telescopic views into the future but as windows upon the present, to give you a God’s-eye-view of your circumstances, of God’s working in your life.

Just over some of those fruitful mounts may be valley lows and wilderness days. You may feel blighted by the frost of relationships or swept away by the winds of adversity, but the Lord of the hills and valleys walks beside you through each one.

Not all valleys are parched, devoid of verdant beauty. Someone once said, “The hills collect the rain for a hundred fruitful valleys.” The land of your new year is cared for, watered from heaven and watched over by the eyes of the Creator, and He will make all your valleys fruitful.

How is this to be? As the Lord told Israel through Hosea, He says to you, “All your fruit comes from Me.” (Hosea 14:8b NLT) And Jesus reiterated that assertion, “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit.” (John 15:5 NKJV)

Abide in Him, my sweet friend, in this year’s journey and you will be fruitful through all you undergo.

When you come upon a misty valley of uncertainty, depression, or unforgiveness, do not linger in there. You will miss the beautiful heights of glory just ahead.

And when a mount of circumstance rises up before you, do not be afraid to ascend that hill. You may be dismayed by its height and vastness but one step at a time will bring you to those heights of glory unknown before. And no matter how steep the way seems, keep your eyes on the way before you; your climb will be that much easier.

The Lord will lead you gently through each day, each season, each circumstance. As Jacob said to Esau in concern for the herds and the children in their journey, so you can take this verse to your heart as from the Lord, “I will lead on slowly at a pace which…the children, are able to endure.” (Gen 33:14 NKJV)

The Lord knows the way; He leads on gently. Not allowing more in your path than you can handle. Do not be disillusioned at the seeming darkness on your path; He will be your Light, your Guide, your Strength, your Peace, and your Comfort.

There are miles to cover this year, tests to take, new things to experience, gifts to discover, moments to breathe in, promises to possess, and sins to release.

May you go forth to possess each gift, each promise, and each day’s delivery of the Lord, to conquer each challenge you encounter, and to be the victor and not the victim of its confrontations. May your journey through the New Year be guided and protected and may it be filled with abundant blessings.

And remember, He will watch over you from the beginning of the year until the end.

With all my love,
