It’s a new year! Whether you have been thinking about making resolutions or goals or just mulling over the possibilities of the new year, you’ve probably done so to make 2015 a better year than the one closing.
There are many ways to improve in the days ahead. Get fit…whether mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, or spiritually. If you need help in some area, you can either hire someone or find someone to help you for free.
Of course, your greatest help is all those areas is the Lord. He will guide you, no matter what your need. He can also show you how to use what you have like David.
First Samuel 17 tells the story of David and Goliath. Verse 18 says, “When the [enemy] came forward to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the [enemy].” (Amp) And in meeting the enemy, David only needed One Rock to take down his enemy.
And so do you! When the enemy comes against you this year, the Lord will be with you, so let your battle cry be the same as David’s, “The battle is the Lord’s.” (1 Sam. 17:47 NKJV)
Make the most of each day and let the Lord fight for you, “because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:16 NKJV)
There are many different versions of the above verse, but the beginning of that verse in all versions exhorts us to make every minute count. Each one should spur us on to make the best of every moment…
“…so make every minute count.” CEV
“Making the very most of the time…” Amp
“Take advantage of every opportunity.” CEB
“Use every chance you have for doing good.” NCV
“Make good use of every opportunity you have.” GNT
“Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days.” Phillips
“So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times!” Msg
Some versions say to redeem the time. The Greek word means to buy up, ransom, to rescue from loss (improve the opportunity).
I love that. Improve the opportunity. Use the opportunities presented to you to improve them. To bless someone else. To stand up for what is right. To smile at someone or give them hug. To give a word of encouragement. Or do as David did and be the victor over the enemy.
Don’t waste a moment. Do all you can do for the Lord and allow Him to do all He can do for you. Put all your moments in His hands and He will fight for you. He will be with you, just as He was with David…
May your New Year be filled with special moments and may you make the most of them all.
