Guided Blindness

July 27, 2017 By Lynn H Mosher

Back in biblical days, there lived a young man named David, who had been born blind. As a gift from his father, a special guide attended David. Whatever he needed, the guide led him, always directing him away from anything harmful.

David was musically gifted. He was so talented that he and his guide traveled many miles to share David’s gift. Sometimes, they were able to ride donkeys, but, for the most part, they walked.

The guide would tell David of all the things happening around him, no matter where they were. David knew he would be lost without his guide. David loved him very much and knew the guide loved him as well.

On occasion, frustration would overwhelm David with his condition in life. He’d get tired and restless and want his independence. He would become disagreeable, breaking away from his guide to try to do things on his own. And David would always end up in trouble.

He fell down a lot. Every so often, he would fall into a pit. But his guide was always there, stretching out his hand to pull David up. The guide would dust David off and they would be on their way again.

Sometimes, David complained when the way seemed too rocky or cold, or it got dusty or dangerous. “Oh, this way is awful. Where are we going? Why can’t you lead me on a smooth, clear path?” David would say. But he knew his guide could see ahead and did what was best for him. And the guide would soothe and comfort David.

Once in a while, a sudden storm would cross their path, but the guide always found a place of refuge for them to be safe.

After each rough journey, the guide would usher David to a special place, a quiet respite so they might be refreshed. A place with gurgling streams and cool meadows. David would drink of the fresh, clear water and rest. He and his guide would sit by the soothing stream for hours, talking and listening to the peaceful sounds.

No matter what the situation, David was always grateful for all the guide’s care and guidance.

The Lord says, “You are my David, my Beloved. I love you very much. As your heavenly Father, I have given you the gift of My Spirit to guide you on your path every day of your life. Rely on Me. Follow Me whether I lead you through dark storms, dusty pathways, rocky climbs, cool glades, or pleasant meadows.

I know what is ahead. And I will show you the best way to get to where you need to be. I will always be your refuge.

I will tell you of things happening around you, when you listen to Me. When you are frustrated, when you are disagreeable, when you want to do things your own way, you will struggle.

Cling to My hand. When you let go, you follow from afar. You get weary with the burdens of the way and you end up in trouble. You will always fall down. But My hand will always be stretched out to pull you up out of your pit. I will dust you off and we’ll be on our way again.

When you cling to Me, the storms, the dust, the rocks, the weariness, will all fade away in My nearness.”

We need guided blindness. Blindness to the outside world and to our own thinking. Relying only on the Lord’s guidance.

In your times of rocky situations and stormy circumstances, be thankful always for the Spirit’s care and guidance.

May you be led to those waters of comfort and places of rest.

According to Your Word

September 29, 2014 By Lynn H Mosher

Bible and prayer
God’s Word. Has God not said it? Then, it is according to His Word.

His holy Word
, His Truth…that which we are to live out in our lives, if we are God’s children.

As our heavenly Father, He gave us His Word for…

*our guidance
*our protection
*our comfort
*our peace
*our success
*our abundance
*our benefit
*our growth
*our victory
*our defense
*our advantage
*our discipline
*our deliverance
*our refreshment
*our salvation
*our righteousness
*our purpose
*our increase
*our conduct
*our wisdom
*our knowledge
*our strength
*our encouragement
*our sustenance
*our revival
*our boundary
*our foundation
*our lamp and light
*our armor
*our sword of the Spirit
*our realization of His love for us
*our total well-being

All according to God’s Word.

Filled with golden nuggets of truth, Psalm 119 contains twelve verses that use the wording “according to Your word.” The writer of this psalm, which is assumed to be David, wrote…

* “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” (verse 9)

* “My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word.” (verse 25)

* “My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.” (verse 28)

* “Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord — Your salvation according to Your word.” (verse 41)

* “I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; be merciful to me according to Your word.” (verse 58)

* “You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your word.” (verse 65)

* “Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to Your word to Your servant.” (verse 76)

* “I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.” (verse 107)

* “Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope.” (verse 116)

* “Plead my cause and redeem me; revive me according to Your word.” (verse 154)

* “Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word. Let my supplication come before You; deliver me according to Your word.” (verses 169 and 170)
(All from NKJV. Emphasis mine.)

God’s Word is so precious. Do you ever just hold your Bible in your arms, pressing it against your heart? Do you rejoice in His Word as David did, “I rejoice in Your word like one who discovers a great treasure.”(Ps. 119:162 NLT)

That precious Word is established forever and is always dependable, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” (Ps. 119:89 NKJV)

When our hearts ache from trials and sorrows, we can depend on the Word to give us comfort, for the Lord will speak to us through it, as David said, “This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.” (Ps. 119:50 NKJV)

Desiring to serve the Lord with hearts full of obedience, we can say to Him, “I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you…I delight in Your decrees; I will not neglect Your word.” (Ps. 119:11 NLT, Ps. 119:16 NIV)

With uplifted, open hands and a heart’s passion to do the will of the Lord, we can say to Him as Mary said to the angel Gabriel, as he relayed the word of the Lord to her. She said, “Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38 NKJV)

And when we desire the Lord above all else, we can say…

Yes, Lord, let it be to me according to Your Word!
