The Word. God’s Word. Written.
And The Word…of God…in the flesh. On earth.
The Word…in the flesh. God. Among us. Does that not give you glory-bumps, as some say?
The disciple John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, as he speaks of himself, wrote of such rich and deep things about Jesus.
He says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:1-2 NKJV)
And a few verses later, he says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 NKJV)
Jesus! The Son of God.
The very personification of God Almighty!
One of my favorite verses says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not being seen.” (Heb. 11:1 Received Greek Text)
The reason I mention it is this one word: substance.
The Greek word for substance means support, setting under, assurance, confidence, essence, person, giving reality, substantial quality or nature of a person, substructure or foundation, and is firm and has actual existence or real being.
And that same word is used in chapter one as it speaks of Jesus as the “express image of His essence,” (Heb. 1:3 RGT). Jesus is the image, character, or exact copy, the actual reality, personification, or essence of God. The real thing.
He IS the Word of God!
And that holy Word is…
* powerful as the sword of the Spirit
* penetrating the heart.
* conveys God’s love
* framed the world
* abides in believers
* sets captives free
* supplies the necessities of life
* makes known His purpose and His will
* can never be broken
* converts the soul
* makes wise the simple
* rejoices the heart
* enlightens the eyes
* prophesies events
* instructs for living
* convicts of sin
* and brings reconciliation.
It is the means by which God reveals Himself and His truths, communicating His heart to those who will read it and listen to it, which then produces faith.
It is like a burning fire and a wielded hammer, like apples of gold in settings of silver.
It stands forever, eternally strong and true.
And that Word? That Jesus?
“His name is called The Word of God.” (Rev. 19:13 NKJV)
The Word…in the Flesh!
Alive and well and living in the hearts of believers!
Blessings of the Word to you…Lynn
