The world is spinning round and round like a tilt-a-wheel. Ever been on one of those? Not me! Nooo, thank you! But my world sometimes feels like that. Does yours?
So much going on in our lives. Too much going on. Our days are filled with duties, appointments, chores, activities, and errands. Our feet hit the floor in the morning and we’re off on a dead run.
If we have too much activity in our lives, we will not have time to spend with our Beloved Lord. We then relegate Him to a waiting room. To be called on when His ticket number comes up. Not good.
The Lord is ever calling His children to draw near. He beckons us to a closer walk. To a deeper walk. A deep walk of intimacy. To hear His heartbeat of love. To feel His breath of mercy and grace exhaling over us. To listen to His whispers of guidance and challenge.
In that alone time with Him, “He reveals the deep and hidden things.” (Dan. 2:22a HCSB) Those deep mysteries and profound secrets.
In order to be steady on our feet, to live in faith, to find our needs met, we must go deep. Deeper than ever before.
As He beckoned Peter, the Lord beckons us to launch out, out into those deep, unknown waters. To launch out into…
…the depths of His love
…the depths of His Holy Spirit
…the depths of His will
…the depths of prayer
…the depths of rest and calm on the ocean bottom
…the depths of intimacy with your Lord
…the depths of all God has for us.
But we always want to cling to the shore of safety; we don’t want to get wet. Or get in over our head. We fear the unknown. We like to have our feet planted on solid ground. But the Lord wants us throw ourselves into the depths. Into His arms of real safety.
He says, “Launch out! The biggest and best fish are found in the great depths of the sea.” So our greatest needs, desires, and passions are met in the deep things of God.
Jesus still beckons to us today. Gently calling, “Come to Me. Launch out into the deep. Go deeper still.”
Swim out to the Lord. Dive into those ocean depths of intimate fellowship with Him. Breath in His Spirit. Breath out self. Go deeper still. He does not lead you to the depths to drown you. But to fulfill you.
Standing on the shore of safety, the mighty waves still come crashing in. But in the stillness of the depths? You will find rest, calm, mercy, grace, love, and all the other blessings of the Lord.
Oh, to know His depths. To be a deep diver!
Ready for that ocean-bottom, deeper walk?
