The Loom of Time

Man’s life is laid in the loom of time
To a pattern he does not see,
While the weavers work and the shuttles fly
Till the dawn of eternity.

Some shuttles are filled with silver threads
And some with threads of gold,
While often but the darker hues
Are all that they may hold.

But the weaver watches with skillful eye
Each shuttle fly to and fro,
And sees the pattern so deftly wrought
As the loom moves sure and slow.

God surely planned the pattern:
Each thread, the dark and fair,
Is chosen by His master skill
And placed in the web with care.

He only knows its beauty,
And guides the shuttles which hold
The threads so unattractive,
As well as the threads of gold.

Not till each loom is silent,
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God reveal the pattern
And explain the reason why
The dark threads were as needful
In the weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
For the pattern which He planned.

I love this poem. Words that tell of God’s working on the prayers and circumstances of our lives. Intertwining the dark threads of arduous days with the gold threads of better days. Making the outcome the most beautiful possible.

So many people, including me, wait for answers to prayer. Sometimes for years. We get impatient to see some kind of action or result. Though no progress is seen with our eyes, we need to remind ourselves that we know in our hearts God still works and “calls into existence things that don’t even exist.” (Rom. 4:17 GW)

Though He seems to tarry on occasion, God is never late. He continues to weave the events of our lives together, for “we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plan.” (Rom. 8:28 TLB)

Therefore, if we continue to trust “God for something that hasn’t happened yet, it teaches us to wait patiently and confidently.” (Rom. 8:25 TLB)

The secret of waiting and trusting, then, is found in the presence of the Lord. And as we wait, we are “rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.” (Rom. 12:12 NKJV)

As David said, “The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him.” (Ps. 25:14a AMPC) The Hebrew word for secret is sod, which means secret, intimacy, consultation, or confidential plan/s, confidential talk, council, etc.

In private, in that intimate time with the Lord, is found that sweet intimate fellowship with Him. The secret place of conversation, for “his secret [intimacy] is with the righteous.” (Prov. 3:32 KJV) That place of sharing confidential talk and plans. The place where He reveals all He desires us to know, comforting us that all is well.

Seek that secret place, that hiding place of shelter in the Lord, for “he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Ps. 91:1 NKJV)

Trust the Lord, for it is He who “has made everything beautiful in its time.”

May the Lord’s shuttle weave His threads of silver and gold with your life’s dark threads of circumstances to blend them into the glorious tapestry you have prayed for.
