I started out pondering furniture makeovers. Pondering always leads to deeper contemplation and inner application.
I subscribe to numerous DIY/design/decorating sites and get their emails. It amazes me what they can do to renew, convert, revitalize, restore, repurpose, or remodel a home, a piece of furniture, or some item. Especially, when they take a piece they purchased or rescue an orphaned piece from the side of the road, one that is worn out, faded, or old, and they give it new life.
When something gets old and loses its luster, has pieces missing or scars from dents and scratches from lots of use, or even abuse, I love seeing it transformed with loving care into something new.
I love makeovers of any kind:
The deep, personal application? The Lord does the same makeover for us…in so many ways. When we lose our luster, or pieces of our heart are missing, or we have scars from lots of use or even abuse, He transforms us with His loving care.
Paul told the Corinthian church, “Now all of us…are being transformed, metamorphosed, into His same image from one radiance of glory to another, just as the Spirit of the Lord accomplishes it.” (2 Cor. 3:18 Voice)
*He takes our blackened heart and creates a new one…
“And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (Ezek. 36:26 NLT)
*When our heart is breaking, He comforts us and mends our heart…
“What a wonderful God we have – he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials.” (2 Cor. 1:3 TLB)
*When our heart is empty, He fills it with His mercy, hope, faith, peace, and joy…
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Rom. 15:13 NLT)
*He also fills our heart with His love…
“We feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” (Rom. 5:5b TLB)
And we must share that love with others…
“You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.” (1 Peter 1:22 NLT)
