Since my last post, What is the Joy of Man’s Desiring, I read a post by my sweet friend Lisa Buffaloe, whom I’ve never met. I thought her post was a great follow-up to my post.
Have you ever lost your joy? Did you find it? Please welcome Lisa and see where she found her joy…
I woke up today and joy was gone. I’m not sure where I left it. I’ve looked all over the house and yard. I’ve called friends looking for my joy. I’ve driven the streets calling out and searching. I’ve shopped, eaten my favorite foods, watched shows on television, even sat with my family. But I still can’t find my joy.
Have you seen my joy?
I’m miserable without it. Should I post a sign on the street corner? Should I place an ad in the newspaper? Maybe even tweet or make a Facebook post, or put out a missing joy alert.
But then … in the quiet, a tiny stirring, a tiny flicker of hope brightens. On my desk, in The Book with words written before time, The Truth calls. The truth of where joy is found. And my soul kneels and looks up to The One who is joy.
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart. In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” ~ Jeremiah 15:16 ESV, Psalm 16:11 ESV
“Blessed be God—he heard me praying. He proved he’s on my side; I’ve thrown my lot in with him. Now I’m jumping for joy, and shouting and singing my thanks to him.” ~ Psalm 28:6-7 MSG
“Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces…So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!” ~ Psalm 34:5 NLT, Psalm 32:11 NLT
“May we shout for joy over your salvation! For you make him glad with the joy of your presence.” ~ Psalm 20:5, Psalm 21:6 ESV
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy. Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy. For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.” ~ Psalm 51:12, 63:7, 43:4, 35:27, 92:4 ESV
“Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!” ~ Psalm 47:1, 95:1-2 ESV
“Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. Our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy.’” ~ Isaiah 49:13, Psalm 126:5-6, 126:2 ESV
“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” ~ Jude 1:23-25 ESV
Thank You, Heavenly Father, in You I find my joy, for You are joy!
