Are you leaning against the wrong lamppost?
You know. The one with no light.
It’s on the dark street corner of Temptation and Submission.
One we all visit once in a while.
So what temptress lures us back to that same old street corner? What entices us away from God’s Light to stand in the shadows and lean against the wrong lamppost?
Maybe the temptress of doubt or unbelief? Or lust of any kind? Pride? Selfishness?
A temptress can be anything beckoning us with that come-hither finger of entrapment, wooing us, batting its flirty eyelashes at us in an attempt to drag us away from God’s protection.
Coming out in the darkest hours of night and leaning upon the wrong lampost will certainly offer us what we crave.
When we do not stay under God’s Lamppost of Light, we will succumb to sin’s seduction and find ourselves in a chamber of gloom. Our path to God and His Word, His will, His purpose, His best of us, will all be darkened.
There is One who walks these lightless streets at night, who stands on the street corner of Grace and Mercy, where Love pours forth to rescue the lost, to heal the broken, to comfort the hurting, to whisper with a still small voice, beckoning, “Come, follow Me. Step out of the darkness and into My Light. The Light of My grace and mercy, for I am that Light. The one following Me will not walk in darkness but walk in My Light of Life.”
But if we fail to fill our hearts with the Light of God and His Word and stand on His promises, we will not end up standing on the street corner of Faith and Trust or Grace and Mercy.
The Voice of Light luring us from our doubts and unbelief, from our heartaches and searching, is the One who understands it all, who tells us there is a better way, who assures us of His love, who promises never to leave us.
That intimate Voice is our Beloved, who sees beyond our outward appearance, penetrating deep into our longing soul, recognizing all we need and can become.
Oh, to desire that precious Light, God’s presence, to engulf and overwhelm our darkness, to walk in the Light of His Word as it enlightens our path.
May you always lean against God’s Lamppost Light of Love…Lynn
