This is the journey of Battered Soul, always in search of that special love and peace…
Gaping wounds of vengefulness and scars of disdain covered her body from the rocks of insults and hatred hurled at her, inflicted by those of her family, friends, and church.
She never knew where she belonged. She never felt welcomed, not even in her own family.
All the weight of adversity dragged her down, drooping her over into a question mark.
With a soul so battered and scarred, she could barely make it through each day. She craved solitude and rest. Having heard of the Royal Residence in Peaceful Valley, she set out to find it, hoping to leave her troubles and suffering behind.
So, the journey of Battered Soul began.
She turned onto King’s Highway, as that was touted to be the true path to follow. Surely this would lead to the Royal Residence.
Somehow she got off the Highway and entered in the deep Gorge of Debasement. Surely no dark beast lives here, waiting for prey, she mused. But here lived the Beast Abuse, whose appetite for meanness could never be satiated. Hearing his surly voice in the distance, she rushed through the gorge. A vast open space greeted her on the other side.
She thought this to be a restful place to stop, but she soon changed her mind when deep darkness engulfed her. She was in the Valley of Shadows with its menacing gloom. The Giant Discouragement set his traps of doubt and worry here.
The unnerving voice of the Giant called out to her, beckoning her to come live in his valley. Battered Soul trembled. She yearned for a haven of comfort.
Managing to avoid the traps, she summoned up all the courage she could and ran through the darkness, crying out, “Oh, someone deliver me from this!”
Escaping the Valley of Shadows, she then experienced the Lake of Grief, the Gulley of Guilt, the Desert of Misery, and the Wilderness of Wandering.
So exhausted from all her difficulties, she stumbled into the Pit of Despair. “Help,” she cried out. “I’ve fallen and I can’t get out.”
Ready to give up as her little faith waned, she heard a gentle voice of compassion say, “Your burdens are too great for you. Let Me take them from you. Here, take My hand. I’ll help you out of the pit.”
“Who are you, sir?”
“I am the Great Shepherd. I’ve come to carry your burdens. I bring you love, peace, and comfort.”
Getting out of the pit, she fell at the feet of the Shepherd. “Here,” she cried. “Take my burdens. I can no longer carry any of them.”
Then, He whispered lovingly to her, “Fret no more. Come with Me. From now on, we will walk together through everything. All will not be sweetness and light, so some days, I may even have to carry you. But My servants Mercy and Grace will follow you all your days. And I will share Hope, Love, and Peace with you always.”
Her search for that special love and peace ended, for she found it all in the Shepherd, who filled her emptiness with His fullness.
He set her back on His Highway and led her to valleys of green pastures, to streams so still nothing could be heard but peace.
Life is a journey that is Homeward bound when you find the Shepherd who leads you there. If you are a Battered Soul, the Shepherd will be with you at every turn of your journey.
Battered Soul found her rest when she laid her wounds at the feet of Jesus. And you will, too.
Peaceful Valley blessings to you…Lynn
