What woudl be possible if

“If you are able to believe, all things are possible to those believing.”
Mark 9:23 The Greek Text (Textus Receptus)

Are you able to believe? What’s possible for you? Let’s see.

Digging…again!

Able: Greek root word dunamai meaning to be able or possible, to be able to do something, to have power.

Possible: Dunatos meaning powerful or capable, able, might, strong. It comes from dunamai.

Believe/believing: Pisteuo meaning to be persuaded of, to place confidence in, to trust, to think to be true. It comes from pistis, which means persuasion, moral conviction, especially reliance upon Christ for salvation.

In the scenario above in Mark 9, a distraught father asked Jesus to heal his demon-possessed son, because the disciples were unable to do so. I can see Jesus waving His hand over the crowd gathered there when He says, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” (Mark 9:19 NKJV)

Essentially, He said, Oh, unbelieving, faithless, disbelieving people! Until when will I have to put up with you?

On numerous occasions, Jesus responded to the people or the disciples as those of little faith. Those lacking reliance on Him. To those listening to the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus chided, “How much more will He clothe you, O you, trusting too little?” (Matt. 6:30 Lynn’s Version)

To the disciples upon arriving on the other side of the lake, who had forgotten to take bread with them, “‘Watch out!’ Jesus warned them. ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’ At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, ‘You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? Don’t you understand even yet?’” (Matt. 16:6-9a NLT)

On another occasion, to the disciples on the lake, while being lashed about by a storm, as crashing waves overwhelmed their boat and Jesus slept, He rebuked them, “Why are you timid and fearful, O you trusting too little, lacking confidence in Me?” (Matt. 8:26 Lynn’s Version)

And, of course, to Peter, as Jesus caught him from sinking into the billowy brine, “Why did you waver, standing in two ways?” (Matt. 14:31 Lynn’s Version) One foot on solid belief, the other slipping into the watery grave.

In the Matthew account of the demon-possessed boy, when the disciples were not able to cast out the demon, “‘You don’t have enough faith,’ Jesus told them. ‘I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.’” (Matt. 17:20 NLT)

So. What is possible to you? What are you persuaded of? In what is your confidence placed? What do you have power to do? Or…are you one of the little faiths?

What would be possible, of power, able to be done, if we had that nugget, that seed, of faith? Nothing would be impossible!

As the father of the demon-possessed boy said to Jesus, “Lord, I believe! [Constantly] help my weakness of faith!” (Mark 9:24 Amp)

Yes, Lord, come to my aid, relieve me of this faithlessness.

“Faith adds its ‘Amen’ to God’s ‘Yea,’ and then takes its hands off, and leaves God to finish His work.” (A. B. Simpson)

What would be possible if you believed?

Don’t you love to dig, Marja? So many treasures in God’s Word that we overlook by just reading the surface. Thanks so much, my friend! Hope you have a blessed week!

  2. Excellent post today, Lynn. I pray this often. I do believe, but am so very thirsty to believe more, better, deeper.

Thank you for the wonderful list of resources, too!

    • lynnmosher says:

Hey, Carol! Thanks so much. Yes, more, better, deeper! For sure! And you’re welcome. Hope the list is useful. Blessings!

  3. Hi Lynn! I often think it’s so sad that my mind still questions the power of God. I echo the man’s cry “Lord I believe, help my unbelief!” If I really 100% had faith, mountains would move. Wow!

But the human brain and heart are such finite things. I just have to keep praying to be more faithful, and to get that all-important grace to give me strength. Even the apostles had their moments, so I am in good company at least!

You have so many wonderful resources, Lynn! Thank you for sharing them, and sharing your results too!
    Happy Tuesday :)
    Ceil

I know, we do that, don’t we? So finite! Thanks so much for stopping by, Ceil! Appreciate it. Blessings to you!
